A list of my favorite Macro Friendly Products. Healthy grocery store picks.
If you follow me on instagram, you know that I eat mostly whole foods. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins make up the majority of my meals. As a result I shop predominantly on the perimeter of the grocery store and don’t buy a ton of pre-packaged products. I do, however, venture into the center isles for a few things and have a small list of convenience items that I love and depend on.
All of the pre-made packaged products I buy pass my Looney 3 fold test. They are:
Low in calories (Volume Food Friendly)
Not something I can easily make myself
Macro Friendly Products:
Josephs lavash and Pita
These are soft and the lowest calorie product as far as flatbreads and pitas go. They are great for making sandwiches but my favorite is to use them to make volume food friendly pizzas, chips and quesadillas. The lavash is amazing in Parmesan Garlic Flatbread!
Extreme Wellness High Fiber Tortillas
Again, super soft and the best calorie bang for your tortilla buck! My favorite tortilla by far.
30-25 calories a cup and it tastes delicious! Enough said. I use it anywhere I would use regular milk. It makes an AMAZING low-calorie Sweetened Condensed Milk to use in recipes like Tres Leches Cake! The only place it does not work is for boxed pudding mixes. It will not thicken like real milk does.
Sugar Free Ketchup
I put this stuff on everything, seriously…..everything. Only 5 calories per tablespoon.
Walden Farms pancake syrup
For 0 calories this makes everything taste good! I always have a stockpile.
Sugar Free Jelly
On toast, in peanut butter and jelly, for sweet omelets, so many uses for this at only 10 calories per tablespoon.
Powdered Peanut Butter
When used in place of flour in pancakes, muffins, or cookies this gives everything added flavor. I don’t think of it as a peanut butter replacement because in my opinion it doesn’t satisfy like real peanut butter does. But as its own thing it is great and only 45 calories per serving. I use it in my Peanut Butter Stuffed French Toast to add more volume to regular peanut butter for minimal calories.
Dannon Greek non-fat Yogurt
I think I have tried every flavor and there is yet to be one I don’t like. The plain is great for baking, sauces, making dressing, and a sour cream substitute.
Philadelphia light Cream Cheese
Most light cream cheese products are rubbery and weird but this brand tastes amazing and is the same consistency of the regular version. I use it to make figure friendly rich tasting sauces like Creamy Chicken, Bacon and Peas and in sweets like Strawberries and Cream Tart.
I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Light
Only 40 calories per tablespoon opposed to 100 calories for real butter and it tastes amazing!
Kernel Popcorn Seasonings
I like a lot of flavor in my food and these babies deliver. Making things taste good without a lot of added fat and calories makes eating healthy a lot easier and enjoyable.
Arctic Zero / Halo Top / Enlighten
I enjoy all three of these brands. They each have their own positives and negatives.
Arctic Zero; Lowest in calories but the least rich and creamy tasting. It also needs a lot of time to sit out to get soft enough to eat. 35 calories per 1/2 cup
Halo top; Creamiest and tastes the most like regular ice cream. It also doesn’t need to sit to get soft. The down side is its higher in calories at 90-100 calories per 1/2 cup.
Enlighten; Best flavors, certain flavors have a swirl in them that is amazing. The red velvet has a cream cheese swirl that I love and the frozen hot cocoa’s marshmallow swirl is unbeatable. Downside is it isn’t as creamy as halo top. Calorie wise its similar to halo top at 90-100 calories per 1/2 cup.
